I love the complexity and the fact that each day is different
Marta Giacopini feels at home at UNIVEG Trade Italy in Verona. “Figures are my favourite thing. With my degree in Economics, I went to work for a mushroom producer. Four years later, I was promoted to Financial Manager.” For eight years, Marta held a similar position at Bocchi group –which, as UNIVEG Trade Italy, became part of the UNIVEG group in 2005. Her love of numbers and smart solutions have come in very handy. “After the take-over of Bocchi group, there were several other mergers. And they demand a lot of coordination and financial audit. The complexity attracts me tremendously. Just give me complicated processes and challenging calculations.”
The UNIVEG group is clearly a global company. “UNIVEG Trade Italy exports Italian products to Germany. Then, via another division, we import fruit and vegetables from South America for customers in the Mediterranean region, Europe and North Africa. In addition, from our modern logistics office here in the area, we take care of the storage and transport of our goods and those of other companies that deliver to our customers as well. So, I have a lot of contact with suppliers and with UNIVEG colleagues all over the world. And every day is different.”
And yet, financial audit is just one of Marta’s duties. She leads the 15-member finance department and, together with the country manager, takes strategic, commercial and HR decisions. “That’s what is so fine at UNIVEG. If you’re ambitious, you get every opportunity to show what you’re worth,” she says. “Collaboration is also highly regarded here. We help each other achieve the company’s goals. And we get a lot of room to make suggestions. Our company is tackling new challenges? Then, that’s always done with consultation and careful consideration.”
